Change only happens in the context of acceptance.
With any and all presenting concerns, I provide a warm, non-judgmental environment. I have an integrative approach, with a particular focus on motivational enhancement, insight oriented exploration of past experiences, and when appropriate, specific tools and coping strategies. I use a number of research backed cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) protocols, which are proven to be effective in treating anxiety and depression. However, I am careful to use these methods in the context of a client centered and welcoming environment which accounts for an individual's particular needs, experiences, and readiness to change.
I work with clients aged 5 or older. I see individuals with a wide range of ages and presenting concerns, however I specialize in treating anxiety, OCD, and in adolescent psychotherapy. I have found it particularly rewarding to create a comfortable therapeutic environment for teen clients.
I am affirming of people of all backgrounds, gender identities, and sexual orientations. Everyone is unique; in my work I strive to identify the specific factors that foster growth for each individual. Please contact me if you are interested in my approach. I look forward to hearing from you.
Samuel Skeen, Psy.D.
I completed my undergraduate degree at Goucher College, with a major in psychology, and my Psy.D. in clinical psychology at the William James College (formerly MSPP). After graduating, I had two years of post-doctoral training at Harvard Vanguard Medical Associates (HVMA). I subsequently worked as a staff psychologist at HVMA for several years, developing specialties in treating anxiety, substance abuse, and adolescents.
I originally grew up near Philadelphia, but moved to the Boston area for graduate school; I have lived and worked here since. In my free time I enjoy cooking, physical activities, and making electronic dance music.
